Parkinson Support Group

The local Parkinson Disease Community invites you to join this support group promoting awareness, education and research. This open forum will allow for sharing real life issues that individuals with Parkinson Disease and caregivers experience. Special guest speakers will be booked on occasion. This group is a wonderful compliment to the Rock Steady Boxing program giving individuals the additional support and direction needed. Click here for meeting dates.

Testimonials that Give a 1-2 Punch:

Marv, diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in 2014, says he now has “more stamina.”

Lloyd credits Rock Steady Boxing with providing “encouragement and also helps with balance.”  Lloyd was diagnosed in 2010.

“Better stability and balance” is what Carl has noticed.  He also said that he has, “better hand and eye coordination as well as stronger shoulder movement.” Carl was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in 2016.

Joe, diagnosed in 2011, has been a member of the Rock Steady Boxing Class since January, 2017.  Joe shares, “The Rock Steady Boxing Class has not only strengthened me physically, but also challenges me mentally.  Physically with all the different exercises our trainers have us do, it has helped me improve my flexibility, balance and overall muscle tone.  My endurance has also greatly improved along with giving me more energy during certain times of the day.”

According to Christine, “The class has increased my self-esteem.”  Diagnosed 20 years ago and has been a member of the Rock Steady Boxing Program since January, 2017.

Craig was diagnosed in 2016 and joined the Rock Steady Boxing in February, 2017.  Craig appreciates the “enthusiasm of the people in class and the instructors.  The class has helped me with my balance and also helped me become stronger so that I can do more on my own.  I’m walking without a wheelchair or walker.”

Les feels the Rock Steady Boxing has provided new friendships.  He is steadier when walking and feels this class “helps with depression.” Les was diagnosed in 2011 and joined the Fitchburg, Wisconsin Rock Steady Program in 2015 and the program at Geneva Lakes YMCA in early 2017.

Diagnosed in 2009, Mary joined Rock Steady Boxing in March, 2017.  She credits the program with “...helping to physically become stronger.  I enjoy being with people who are, like me, living with Parkinson’s Disease.”

John “Doc” was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2004 and joined the Rock Steady Boxing Class in January, 2017.  When asked how the Rocky Steady Boxing Class was helpful to him, “Doc” said, “First of all I love to box and for those few minutes I don’t even think about my disease.  I have met some wonderful people that I probably wouldn’t have come  into contact with and it gets me out of the house. Some days I feel as though I have more energy.  You also realize that you are not the only one dealing with this    disease.  Love the encouragement from the group!”

Diagnosed in July 2014, George has found the Rock Steady Program to be very helpful. He has met new people and has participated in exercises that have been adapted to meet his needs.
