Description:
Maintains safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures and serves our members and community as a whole, through our YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. Free family YMCA membership for applicants household if hired.
Requirements:
- Maintains constant surveillance of the pool area.
- Knows, reviews, and responds to all emergency procedures and situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. Completes related reports as required.
- Maintains effective, positive relationships with the members, participants, and other staff.
- Knows and understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.
- Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state Health Department code.
- Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.
- Checks the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving.
- Performs chemical testing at appropriate times of the day, as required, and takes appropriate action.
- Attends all staff meetings and training as required.
- Maintains the cleanliness of the pool area, as required and as needed.
Qualifications:
- Minimum age of 15.
- Must hold current Red Cross Lifeguard or YMCA Lifeguarding Certification. If not, the YMCA will initially certify you and keep your certification, renewed while employed.
- Ability to maintain certification and level of physical and mental readiness.
- Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
- Paid completion of Child Abuse Training prior to start date. CPR training to be completed through YMCA.
- Prevention videos, all paperwork, and signing in to apps needed for the department.
