Description:
Under the supervision and guidance of the School Age Child Care & Preschool Director, Care Staff are responsible for providing safe, supportive, and engaging care for children enrolled in the YMCA’s Wrap Around Care and Y BASE programs at Turtle Creek Elementary School. This position supports children before and after school during the academic year and includes participation in YMCA School Day Out Camps.
This is a part-time, school-year position, with schedules typically ranging from 10–25 hours per week, depending on role and availability.
Typical Hours:
- Morning Care: 6:00 or 6:30 AM – 8:45 AM
- Afternoon Care: 3:45 PM – 6:00 PM
Requirements:
- Supervise and actively engage children ages 3–12 in a fast-paced, school-based program environment.
- Create a welcoming, inclusive, and nurturing atmosphere that supports the YMCA’s values and positive youth development.
- Plan, prepare, and lead daily activities that promote learning, creativity, physical activity, and social-emotional growth.
- Serve as a positive role model for both participants and fellow staff.
- Communicate professionally and respectfully with elementary school staff, families, and YMCA leadership.
- Consistently enforce Geneva Lakes Family YMCA behavioral expectations and disciplinary policies.
- Follow all YMCA and school emergency procedures to ensure the safety and well-being of children.
- Promptly communicate any concerns, incidents, or emergencies to the School Site Director and/or School Age Child Care & Camp Director.
- Maintain clean, organized, and developmentally appropriate program spaces.
- Uphold all YMCA policies, guidelines, and ethical standards.
- Ensure program compliance with Wisconsin DCF 251 licensing regulations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Demonstrated interest in working with children and supporting their growth and development.
- Experience or coursework in Early Childhood or Elementary Education preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to understand and respond appropriately to the needs of children and families.
- Ability to remain active, engaged, and flexible throughout the workday.
- Completion of Presidium Child Abuse Prevention Training prior to start date.
- CPR certification required within 30 days of hire.
- Completion of Abusive Head Trauma Prevention training.
- Successful completion of FBI fingerprint background check prior to start date.
