Climbing Wall Attendant l Pay Grade 1

POSITION SUMMARY

Facilitate rock climbing programs while assuring safe climbing conditions and observation areas in harmony with the

mission statement and policies of the Geneva Lakes Family YMCA.

Free family YMCA membership for applicants household if hired. 

 

Requirements:

  • ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    • Remember that this is a high-risk activity and that all policies and regulations will be strictly followed.
    • Assure participants have been properly cleared to climb by the Waiver and Consent policies.
    • Greet people visiting the wall with a smile and enthusiasm. Assist climbers in properly putting on climbing equipment.
    • Maintain safe climbing conditions on the wall and surrounding areas by communicating and enforcing wall rules and appropriate behavior to staff, participants, and spectators.
    • Perform routine maintenance of the climbing wall and surrounding areas, to ensure cleanliness and safety as assigned.
    • Report unsafe conditions to the supervisor immediately.
    • Address behavior that is inappropriate and not consistent with positive character values in a manner that does not devalue the individual.
    • Respond to member needs. Handle complaints in a courteous, patient manner using problem-solving

    techniques. Contact the appropriate Y personnel when necessary.

    • At the discretion of the Sports Operations Director, attend staff meetings, workshops, and seminars to increase knowledge and skills.
    • Follow all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency and safety

    procedures. Complete incident and accident reports as necessary..

     

Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS

Individuals in this job must be at least 18 years of age, with climbing experience preferred (but not required), and have the following abilities: motivate and effectively communicate with members, participants and staff; be observant and alert to potential safety and security problems; Auto belay training, CPR/First Aid/AED and Child Abuse Prevention certifications must be obtained and maintained through the YMCA.
